CapCut

CapCut is a video editor developed by ByteDance. It was first released in China in 2019 under the name JianYing, was rebranded internationally from ViaMaker to CapCut in 2020, and is now offered as a mobile app, desktop app and web app. A Pro version for Windows launched in February 2021. The program is used for cutting and arranging video clips, adding effects and audio, and producing finished videos for platforms such as YouTube and Instagram. Projects are edited on a single layer, with overlay options for multi-layer effects. A template library applies predefined effects, transitions, audio timing and media placeholders to a user's own footage, and a caption tool generates editable subtitles. AI-based features include video and script generation. CapCut is developed by ByteDance and is available as a mobile app, desktop app and web app. A Pro tier exists alongside the free version; CapCut Pro for Windows launched on 1 February 2021. Editing is limited to a single layer by default, with overlay options used for multi-layer effects. Feature availability can differ between the desktop, mobile and web versions.
