Windscribe

Windscribe is a commercial virtual private network service founded in 2016 and based in Canada. It provides client applications and server infrastructure for routing internet traffic through encrypted tunnels. The service is used to mask a user's IP address, encrypt traffic on untrusted networks and access region-restricted content. It fits into a normal browsing or remote-work workflow as a background connection managed from a desktop or mobile app. The desktop and mobile clients are described as open source, while the server infrastructure is proprietary and operated by the vendor. In 2021 the vendor disclosed that two servers in Ukraine were seized by local authorities; users of official apps and non-OpenVPN protocols were reported as unaffected. Subscription terms, server access and feature limits vary by plan, so check the vendor's current pricing before purchase.
